The campus's SUT Specialty Hospital, which has 470 beds, was founded in 1987 by E. K. Nayanar, the former Prime Minister of Kerala, during a period when higher education institutions in this region of the nation were lacking. The facility began with complete interventional cardiology and open heart surgery capabilities. This is where Kerala's first coronary bypass operation on a beating heart takes place. In 1988, the first Mitral Valvuloplasty was done here for the second time. The hospital chose to start a new medical college, which is today growing into a medical learning and practise centre. Sri.Moogambigai Charitable and Educational Trust now manage the hospital and campus.
