The Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Hospital, was opened in 2001, is a 1380-bed super speciality hospital. It is the first teaching hospital in Puducherry UT to be recognised by Knob, and it offers 24-hour full-time duty consultants in all specialities as well as emergency services, including catering for trauma patients, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic and general surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, and others. With 15 modular operating theatre suites equipped with the newest technology, the facility can handle around 1000 patients and 700 inpatients every day. Intensive care units (ICICU, ICU, CCU, MICU, NICU & PICU dialysis units) are of the highest class with all emergency backups in the bedroom. General wards, special wards (single room without AC), sharing rooms and deluxe room (single room with AC, TV, geyser etc.) are available for completing inpatient services.
