Government Medical College, Amritsar

founded in 1943, is one of the greatest medical schools in the country. The Government Medical College Amritsar was founded in 1864 as a medical school in Lahore (Punjab's unified capital) and transferred to Amritsar in 1920. The clinical school was restructured and began as a Medical College in 1943. Following India's independence, the institution began granting Postgraduate accreditation and recognition under the MBBS Graduate Degree Programmes. GMC Amritsar has expanded the following support services: philanthropic organizations’ assistance for college expansion, Ram Saran Dass Parkash Wati Kakkar Trust's Alternative Children's Emergency Clinic, TB Sanatorium, Free Eyes and Ear and Neck Hospital, and different orthopedic ward Trust. The Medical Council of India has authorized Government Medical College, which is associated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot (MCI).

Admission Eligibility:

Students seeking admission to this college must be 17 years old by December 31st of the admission year. Students with a minimum of 50 percent in science subjects, including biology or biotechnology, as well as physics and chemistry, are eligible (in the case of SC/ST students, 40 percent in board examinations; 45 percent for OBC students). Qualifying for the National Eligibility and Entrance Examination is also required of students (NEET) .

Admission Eligibility:

If you want to get an MBBS, you must take the National Qualification and Entry Examination (NEET) administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after you finish grade 12. All government, private, intermediate, and tertiary universities will be based on NEET schools, and seats will be granted on an advising basis based on merit results/standards, college preferences, and available seats.

Infrastructure:

The Amritsar Medical College & Hospital is a 163-acre campus containing academic zones, air conditioning, a canteen, a hospital, a library, medical facilities, class rooms, a residential institute, and a residential zone. The college has a total built-up area of 66000 square metres. In the year 2012, a 9-story hospital complex (with a total built-up area of 30000 square metres) was built and attached to the college, consisting of the Bebe Nanki Mother & Child Care Centre and the Guru Teg Bahadur Diagnostic & Superspeciality, which is partially funded by the Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). In addition, the college has two independent complexes: the College of Nursing and the Swami Vivekananda Drug De-addiction Centre.

Faculty:

GMC Amritsar features highly-experienced 238 doctors as professors, associate professors, and assistant professors for all departments, as well as 655 faculty members as senior residents, junior residents, and other staff for the whole department.

Library:

The library is housed in a three-story structure with a total built-up area of and is located on the main college campus. The library includes a large collection of books and periodicals, with subscriptions to 78 international and 63 Indian publications. It also has access to a small number of HSLIBNET-provided e-journals. In the library, there are ten computers with internet access.

Hostel:

The first two blocks of GMC Amritsar's Hostel, A and B, were constructed in 1929. The hostel and residential complex have a total area of 19000 square metres. Both the men's and women's hostels have 300 beds available. The beautiful layout of Cambridge University was developed and erected in these two blocks. Other hostel buildings were later erected to satisfy the students' needs and to comply with MCI regulations.

Sports:

Students at GMC Amritsar have access to a variety of playground amenities, including a cricket pitch, football, hockey, volleyball, and a tennis lawn. In addition, the college has an indoor game stadium with gym facilities.

About Hospital:

The Guru Nanak Dev. Hospital, a three-story structure next to the college complex erected in 1974, includes a vast outdoor portion, emergency wards, and different specialist and super-specialty departments. Undergraduate, postgraduate, and paramedical students can be taught and trained at hospitals with a bed capacity of 960. Clinical laboratory, radiological, and associated diagnostic facilities are also accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With the support of several philanthropic trusts, the Medical College has expanded and now offers services such as a Paediatric hospital, TB Sanatorium, Free Eye and Ear Nose and Throat Hospital, and a distinct Orthopaedics unit. In its 24 operating rooms, the Amritsar Government Hospital performs an average of 100 procedures every day.

Student Support:

Anti- Ragging: - Any disorderly behaviour, whether via words said or written, or by an act, that has the effect of taunting, treating, or dealing a fresher or junior student with rudeness.

Health Care Services: - Medical services range from simple cold, virus, and minor injury treatment at less complete institutions to comprehensive lab tests, X-rays, specialists, and pharmacies at the most comprehensive centers. Counseling services are available in many campus health Programmes.

Counselling Service: - The 'Counselling Service' is for persons who are experiencing emotional or behavioural issues. Or addiction, or certain health concerns such as HIV/AIDS, but the fact is that people of all types seek Counselling, and this does not imply that they are "crazy" or "weak."

Hostel: - Students may arrive two days ahead to the commencement of the academic semester and must exit Residential rooms within two days of the completion of regular exams. Rooms have a bed, a table, a chair, and almirahs. Mess with vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

Report: - A student must offer a narrative of an event or report facts from a book, article, or other source in a college report. While some research may be required when writing a report, it is mostly a document that asks you to understand rather than obtain the data on which you report.
